Bloodhounds Leftovers

Out of all the leftovers I’ve looked at, these are probably the most interesting so far.
Bloodhounds is another set of lyrics where I went through a massive bout of writer’s block. There was tons of material to go through but it wasn’t as bad as I remember it being. Not knowing what to expect, the level of quality in these lyrics actually surprised me as much as the main group did.
Forcing myself to write on Sorry For The Mess and documenting too many shitty ideas for In Times Of Transition, my issues here were a bit different. While producing a decent amount of good content, the main group had no direction. Although it sucked at the time, these leftovers have a lot of variety as a result. Hilariously enough though, I found more than one thing that only had between two to four lines written before getting abandoned. I’m not quite sure what’s up with that.
Anyway, some of these are victims of my overthinking at the time. There are actually six different versions of Low-Fidelity including this final one and that’s something I did with a few lyrics. Lost My Nerve is a favourite that never felt quite right and Dominos just hasn’t fit anywhere. I don’t remember writing Phone Call (despite knowing exactly who/what it’s about) and Out Of Sight originated from my Seasons In Colour side project.
April’s Garden was written early on during these sessions. It’s actually based on this article (opens in new window) I wrote for my freelance gig: Based on the publishing date, it would’ve been summer 2011. (Who says this site can’t be educational, by the way?)
This group of lyrics also marks the end of having massive amounts of leftovers for a project. I’ll touch upon it with the stuff from Hard Fought Defeat, but I’ve gotten much better at self-editing.

Low-Fidelity
Fast ahead but moving back
On floating scales and bleeding tracks
Digitized for winning hands
All playing through our last demands
Filters off and coming down
An era lost inside the sound
We’re humming to our favourite songs
Distorted but still going strong
I can’t find where every story seemed to go amiss
Unsettled by the sounds, we’re falling deep in the abyss
I miss the things that comfort me, they cover up these tragedies
But don’t you know it’s fine? Don’t you know it’s Fine?
Vintage notions set aside
Swallowed swords, these lossless tides
A promise made for new returns
It’s who you know, not what you’ve learned
As everyone keeps going mad
They can’t recall what we once had
With fire breathers born of greed
Embracing mediocrity
I can’t find where every story seemed to go amiss
Unsettled by the sounds, we’re falling deep in the abyss
I miss the things that comfort me, they cover up these tragedies
But don’t you know it’s fine? Don’t you know it’s Fine?
We’re tracing every shiver crawling up and down your neck
Always finding evolutions no one here could quite dissect
With nothing all that simple in the lines left to amend
It’s like trying to cure a cancer that you’ll never comprehend
I can’t find where every story seemed to go amiss
Unsettled by the sounds, we’re falling deep in the abyss
I miss the things that comfort me, they cover up these tragedies
But don’t you know it’s fine? Don’t you know it’s Fine?
Don’t you know it’s fine? Don’t you know it’s Fine? Oh yeah
It’s fine, it’s fine, it’s fine, it’s fine
It’s fine, it’s fine, oh yeah
Oh yeah….
Out Of Sight
Stand up straight to push away
These failures made to move along
More cobwebs grown to seize the day
Disgraced in time for what went wrong
Now suffocate the rising tide
Designs we all thought bullet proof
Reactors made to blow your mind
Were nothing more than misconstrued
So you know we’re always waiting for
Another metaphor to come
Still chasing down the answers but
Our legs don’t seem to run
If you colour me a picture, please
Don’t paint it black and white
I’ll raise these stakes to wash it clean
If you’ll keep it out of sight
While ego conquers many things
With ink stains racing through the dark
Like coal turned into diamond rings
In tune for pathways made of sparks
No one bothered to disarm it
Faces grim and battle hardened
We should’ve seen it coming from the start
So you know we’re always waiting for
Another metaphor to come
Still chasing down the answers but
Our legs don’t seem to run
If you colour me a picture, please
Don’t paint it black and white
I’ll raise these stakes to wash it clean
If you’ll keep it out of sight
Currently our currencies
They’re stretched out on the mend
While everywhere the helpless stare
With nothing to defend
Lost in our own spaces
Keeping tabs on this delay
It’s not that I’m ignoring you
There’s nothing left to say
Phone Call
Got mad then we laughed for awhile
Just to stop and repress our denial
Both lost for an hour or so
Caught the clock pushing reasons to go
Chicago stuck out in our minds
Good friends are a struggle to find
I’ll hold ’til you choose to return
Can’t forget what you’re willing to learn
I don’t want to hear them speak
I wish that they’d all disappear
I don’t want to hear them speak
As if they know why you’re not here
When they don’t know why you’re not here
It seems there’s a chill in the air
When discussing the living impaired
Some anger slips through to the end
But when will I see you again?
When will I see you again?
I don’t want to hear them speak
I wish that they’d all disappear
I don’t want to hear them speak
As if they know why you’re not here
When they don’t know why you’re not here
I don’t know why you’re not here
Lost My Nerve
While every road sign came and went
Some detours made aren’t heaven sent
Moving past each exit as they blurred
Our constellations don’t make sense
So caught up in the present tense now
Learning to skate by, I must observe
I lost my nerve, I lost it all
I couldn’t answer when you called
Although I wanted you to fall back into me
I couldn’t see, but I still cared
I never meant to leave you there
So when you showed up, unprepared I just observed
I lost my nerve, yeah
Polluting every star filled night
More smoke behind these neon lights
Hanging back to watch them slowly burn
With nothing much left on display
All beds we make and never lay in
Holding out, you’ll see how much it hurts
I lost my nerve, I lost it all
I couldn’t answer when you called
Although I wanted you to fall back into me
I couldn’t see, but I still cared
I never meant to leave you there
So when you showed up, unprepared I just observed
I lost my nerve, yeah
If nothing here was meant to last
Then how long will it take to pass?
Another lifetime made for me to learn
I lost my nerve, I lost it all
I couldn’t stand up when you called
Although I wanted you to crawl back home to me
I couldn’t see, but I still cared
So when you came here unprepared
Showing up and standing there, I just observed
I lost my nerve, yeah
I lost my nerve, yeah
I lost my nerve, I lost it all
I couldn’t answer when you called
I lost my nerve, I lost my nerve, I lost my nerve
Dominoes
Advantage point, game set and match
I’ve got an itch that can’t be scratched
It’s in a spot, so hard to reach
Where nothing ends and chaos feeds
On what’s unknown to lie in wait
In all our minds for logic’s sake
Now coming down to look behind
For reasons that you’ll never find
Watching all the dominoes, watching all the dominoes fall
Now you’ve got me wondering, wondering if you care at all
Do you care at all? Do you care at all?
Scaling each result to the surface
Waiting for this moment to come
Holding on to nothing of substance
With every little sympathy gone
Watching all the dominoes, watching all the dominoes fall
Now you’ve got me wondering, wondering if you care at all
Do you care at all? Do you care at all?
Some things come but all things go
While soon enough, they all explode
holding off, we’re blinded by the smoke
Drawn to every open flame
Like moths to shipwrecks not contained
Waiting for the signal, then I’ll choke
It’s such a joke
Watching all the dominoes, watching all the dominoes fall
Now you’ve got me wondering, wondering if you care at all
Do you care at all? Do you care now?
Watching all the dominoes, watching all the dominoes fall
Now you’ve got me wondering, wondering if you care at all
Do you care at all? Do you care at all?
April’s Garden
Now her picture hangs so proudly
On a wall inside this room
With unselfish names to mention, bound to join her
As sunlight fills the spaces
Clear as day, built from the dirt
Like the signal from a satellite, far beyond this
While nothing really changes
We’ve all got change to make
To live and die and still ask why
Confined to hearts that break
Can you tell me something simple?
Something easy to digest
Not wasting time on lullabies
Can we focus on the rest?
Focus on the rest
For eighteen years, a lifetime
With these voices left unknown
From inspired words to change the world
To their resting place a home
In their resting place a home
Their resting place a home
