Bruises

As we laid still, beneath the summer sky
The stars reflected off your brown and teary eyes
I can't help it, I still drift back there sometimes
I saw your heart beat, as you wound up bruising mine

Like the moonlight peaking through the tallest trees
Your life was such a waste, you were almost on your knees
Like a silent prayer, you never made a sound
And now you call for help, but there's no one else around

Everytime it seems so clear
The moon fades off, the past is mirrored
These cuts and bruises never seem to heal

Your tears kept falling before the rainstorm in the dark
And soon your misty eyes extinguished every spark
Blew out the candles on the cake of your despair
I tried to save you, but the smoke was always there

Like the London fog that wraps around the night
You billowed in the air until you drifted out of sight
In the morning light, I knew these things would have to change
That night we chose to share was drowned out by the rain

Everytime it seems so clear
The moon fades off, the past is mirrored
These cuts and bruises never seem to heal

If I could still have one last wish
I'd save your soul from where it's been
These cuts and bruises never seemed so real
