If nothing else, Happy Inc. is a bit schizophrenic.
Revised over the years, this 2001 entry into the catalogue is all over the place. To me, it’s probably the most personal thing from this era and a step up from Constantly Travelling. Still, that doesn’t mean it’s flawless either.
What’s jarring is how certain lyrics just don’t really fit. Most are based on personal experience and then something like Spirit Of The Forest or Future Of Thee Past comes in. The former is one of my favourites but they stick out as writing experiments more than anything. Same goes for Smell The Flowers, but the message it conveys is easy to understand.
As previously mentioned, Spirit Of The Forest remains a favourite. Others from Happy Inc. include Heavy Melody, Goodnight, Summer Of Love and Stay (probably the only love song I’ve ever written that doesn’t outright suck.) Aggravated used to be the thing I hated most in my 20 years of sharing lyrics, but this new edit has finally fixed my issues with it.
